Agricultural Sector Development Programme Phase II (ASDP II)

Agricultural sector development is very crucial in the growth of the national economy and development of industrial sector. Agricultural development is equally important for the provision of adequate food and guarantees nutrition security to the Tanzania population. Currently, the agricultural sector contributes about 29.1 % of the GDP 65.5% of employment, 65% of raw materials to the industrial sector and 30% of export earnings.

The Agricultural Sector Development Programme phase two (ASDP II) has been developed to propel the country’s economic development and guide the implementation of prioritized interventions for the Tanzania Development Vision 2025 (TDV 2025). Long Term Perspective Plan (LTPP 2012-2021);’ Five Year Development Plan. phase two (FYDP II 2011- 2021), Tanzania Agriculture and Food Security Investment Plan (TAFSIP) and the Agricultural Sector Development Strategy Phase II (ASDS II). The duration of (ASDP II) is ten years starting from the year 2017/18 to 2027/28. The programme is to be implemented into two stages of five years each, the first starting from the year 2017/18. The main objective of ASDP II is to transform the agricultural sector (crops, livestock & fisheries)towards higher productivity, commercialization level and increase smallholder farmer income for improved livelihood and guarantee food and nutrition security.
